During an interactive session, participants are invited to reflect on institutional and artistic practices related to the complexity of bodies. Curator Daniel Neugebauer, along with artists Jasmijn Visser and Lantian Xie, will address a series of questions: Where and how do bodies manifest? Does someone’s luxury endanger someone else’s life? What is the anatomy of a body of power?

Through an innovative lecture-performance, musical elements, and a gaming session, the guests will demonstrate how artistic research can shape institutional practice and how politics, mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion, are reshaped by all the bodies present (or absent) in a room, a conversation, an institution, or a state.
Jasmijn Visser works at the intersection of design and art. In her practice, Visser explores the order, aesthetics, and narrative patterns of geopolitical cases and proposes new frameworks for understanding complexity. Her artworks often emerge from long-term collaborative projects, such as Conflict Atlas—Geopolitics and Contingencies on the Malvinas/Falklands Archipelago, where she examined the writing of a geopolitical conflict by placing the center of the world on the Falkland Islands, in collaboration with Metahaven. Another project, Serf Club, involved creating an algorithm that generates a live film by connecting 2,500 live streams with automated subtitles and archival music, in collaboration with PWR Studio. Currently, Visser is finalizing her first video game, The Weather Has Been Cancelled, and is a fellow at the Rachel Carson Center in Munich, where she researches media narratives and the aesthetics of climate change.
Lantian Xie creates images, objects, things, events, formulations, leaps, sudden changes, movements, exhibitions, books, working groups, jazz bands, motorcycles, and parties.
Daniel Neugebauer is an educator/curator/cultural manager based in Berlin. He served as the head of the Communication and Cultural Education Department at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) from 2018 to 2022. In 2023, he joined HKW's curatorial team under Bonaventure Ndikung’s leadership. Neugebauer was the first Connected World Senior Fellow at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2022-2023), focusing on the relationship between the university and the bodies of students. He has edited four volumes in the HKW Das Neue Alphabet series (2020-2023) on the politics of the body and their poetics. His previous roles include Education Coordinator for the Romanian Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale (2022) for Adina Pintilie; Head of Marketing, Mediation, and Fundraising at Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven (2012-2018); and Marketing Coordinator for Documenta 14 (Kassel/Athens) in 2016/2017. He trained at Kunsthalle Bielefeld (2006-2012) and earned a degree in cultural geragogy in 2012. Since 2018, he has been an active volunteer member of the Berlin Council for the Arts.
The event is moderated by Cristiana Ursache and will be conducted exclusively in English.
